Nearly 2 months after Nicholas' birthday, here are some pictures of the party we had. I wanted to keep it small so we just invited a few of his friends over, (Clara & Shepherd and TIlly, Teddy and his sister Victoria, and Zoey who couldn't make it), for a few hours and did some games and food and cake. I ran out of time to make his cake this year so it ended up being one from Whole Foods. We had a fireman theme, and the kids played a treasure hunt game - pretending to be fireman with their hats on - looking for all the fires to put out. The cards with clues drawn on them were made by Grammie and the kids just loved it. We also played pin the tail on the donkey which also went down a treat. Maggie and Sarah even had a go at this one. Pics are a bit out of order below, whoops. During the week of Nicholas' birthday, I took some morning tea along to his class and joined in on the birthday circle they do. The birthday kid (Nicholas) helps place the sun (candle) on the floor and put the months of the year around it. Then grabs a globe and we sing the birthday song - the earth goes around the sun....and then he was 1 (then 2, then 3 etc). Nicholas walks the globe around the sun and months of the year, and stops at August and I show a picture of when he was 1 (then 2 then 3 etc) and talk a little about it and him. It was such a wonderful 10 minutes and such a great way to celebrate the child and their birthday. Nicholas did great! Nicholas is in school full days now, from 8:30am-3pm. He's loving it and doing really well. It seems he's grown up so much since turning 4. (3½ years old was not my favourite age I have to admit).
He took the summer off piano lessons and is back into them every week and is really getting the hang of it. We're also taking him to the next level of Music Together classes, called Rhythm Kids, which he LOVES! I tried swimming lessons again with him over the summer and tennis earlier in the summer but he's really not that interested. We'll try again next year. He does love the pool though and we tried to get to the local pool or Tammy's as much as we could over the summer. Fire engines and fire emergencies have been his thing for quite a few months now and loves to play pretend around that theme - thanks to the (Welsh) TV show Fireman Sam, which we get through Amazon Video). He's got a great sense of humour and loves to laugh at his guesses of what Sarah and Maggie are saying. "She's wants to give Shepherd a wash? And put the toilet in the bath and give that a wash too?" Giggle giggle giggle. He's a wonderful little guy that's for sure :-) He's doing well at reading and writing and maths at school, and has a ball in the outdoor classroom from what he tells us...
